We genuinely love the cuisine
Balinese cooking has layers of herbs, spices, aromatics and textures. We enjoy the process of preparing those ingredients and turning them into food that is meant to be shared.
Tumang Ubud Cooking Class grew from something close to home: our family’s love for Balinese food, traditional flavours and the joy of sitting down together to eat.
We are a family with two children, and we want travellers visiting Bali to experience more than simply following a recipe. We want to share the food we enjoy, the ingredients we use and a little part of the everyday food culture we love.
OUR STORY
For us, Balinese food is not just a list of dishes. It is part of family life. It is the smell of fresh spices, the preparation of ingredients, the recipes passed through everyday cooking and the simple pleasure of eating together.
That is why we created this cooking experience. We wanted to open a small window into the food we love and give travellers a chance to cook, taste and learn in a relaxed countryside setting around Ubud.
Our family includes two children, and sharing food is naturally part of our life. We enjoy discovering and preparing traditional Balinese flavours, and we enjoy meeting people from different places who are curious about our food.
The cooking class is our way of bringing those two things together: our love of Balinese cuisine and our love of sharing it with travellers.
WHY WE DO IT
Balinese cooking has layers of herbs, spices, aromatics and textures. We enjoy the process of preparing those ingredients and turning them into food that is meant to be shared.
Travellers bring curiosity, questions and stories from around the world. Sharing a cooking session gives us a natural way to connect while introducing guests to food we know and love.
This is a family-led experience built around something we already enjoy in everyday life: Balinese food and eating together.
THE EXPERIENCE
Our cooking class takes place around Ubud in a Balinese countryside setting, surrounded by rice fields and village life. There is no separate village walk or separate rice-field walk; the rural setting is simply part of where the experience takes place.
Guests cook together, learn about the ingredients and traditional flavours, and then enjoy the food with the other travellers joining the shared session. Recipes are provided after the class so you can take the experience home with you.
